Frog’s Adventures

Quick post…

I started a new schedule at work over the last week, causing a major re-adjustment (switching from day shift to night shift - how fun!). None-the-less, I did get a chance to ride last week on the 12th. The ride was up Sisar Canyon Fireroad to Red Reef Trail - one that I have done before, only last time it was still covered in snow on the upper elevations! This time there was no snow to be found, but it was misty and air temps were still in the upper 40’s at the 4000′ to 5000′ elevations.

The mist lent a very surreal aspect to the ride, often obscuring the trail down to mere yards in front of me as I rode. At the top, alnog the ridge line from Sisar Fireroad to to the Red Reef trailhead, the sun finally appeared, as I had gained enough elevation to be mostly above the mist, fog and cloud cover. Down in the mid-elevations, along the Sisar Creek canyon where Red Reef trail runs to Whiteledge Campground, the oak and sycamore forest was dark, mysterious and thickly covered in fog!

I took a few photos along the way, but in reality, most of the views from the ridge, which are normally spectacular, were ubscured by the thick, gray stuff. Down below, on the trails in the canyon, it was too dark and/or foggy to get many good pictures. The few I did get seem to convey the feeling of the day, however, so be sure to visit the Photo Album for this ride! I did caption the photos to better describe each view.

This was a fun and exhilarating 18 mile ride that starts about 1000′, soars up to 5000′ on a steep, winding dirt fire road and then drops back down on an even steeper singletrack trail.

Enjoy!
